Chelsea is actively working to secure the signing of Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell, after meeting the £54 million release clause for Timo Werner at RB Leipzig.
Chelsea could go on adding players in swap deals or loans depending on how their summer develops later on.
The deal with Chilwell is complicated, however, because of the lack of a release clause.
The club therefore needs to negotiate a fee with Leicester to take him to Stamford Bridge next season, Goal reports. Chilwell probably will cost over £80 m.
Neither Liverpool nor Manchester United were willing to pay that money for the 24-year-old forward, allowing the Blues to close in ahead of next season on their second signature. But at what cost?
Moreover, Leicester has not put a price tag on its key asset which they likely intend to keep Chilwell.
