Chelsea’s race for Sevilla and France center-back Jules Kounde has ended after the clubs couldn’t agree on a transfer fee. So, among other Chelsea football transfer news, Kounde will stay with Sevilla instead of joining the Blues at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have shown interested in Kounde for some time, but Sevilla have remained steadfast in their valuation of the 22-year-old.
Jules Kounde was also of interest to Manchester United prior to the arrival of Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane at Old Trafford.
Kounde also rejected Tottenham’s request for Champions League football.
After such drama, a deal between the Blues and Sevilla for Kounde appeared as likeliest to be on the cards.
However, only a few hours before the transfer deadline arrived, Fabrizio Romano reported that negotiations had come to an end.
Chelsea Football Transfer News – Kounde Will Stay with Sevilla
With the two parties reaching no agreement, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano stated Chelsea had “no intention” of continuing to negotiate.
Romano implied that the move failed owing to Chelsea’s failure to meet Kounde’s €80 million release clause, set by Sevilla.
The fact that Kounde is staying will give Sevilla a boost. This is because his staying means that he will be able to play for them in the Champions League.
On the other hand, this failed deal is a setback for Chelsea’s plans to add depth to their squad.
After all, the Blues recently let Kurt Zouma leave for West Ham. But we aren’t worried because they still have four established center backs. These are Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, and Trevoh Chalobah.
Furthermore, Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James, both full-backs, are versatile enough to play as auxiliary center-backs in a three-man defense.
