Bayer Leverkusen won against Saarbruecken 3-0 in an away match on Tuesday.
In the 11th minute, French winger Moussa Diaby brought Leverkusen ahead and Lucas Alario added a second eight minutes later. After that substitute Karim Bellarabi scored the last goal in the 58th minute.
Saarbruecken became the first squad from the fourth tier to get the final four of the cup, capturing the scalps of two top-flight and two second-division clubs along the way.
Back when the season first began, it hadn’t played for 94 days following the suspension of the German Regional League, and then suddenly stopped owing to the coronavirus health crisis.
They have now entered the German Cup final next month and at the same time brought the fourth division side’s fairy-tale run to a jolting end.
