Barcelona are keen to bring Ferran Torres back to Spain, and the player is open to making the deal too. But this news on the 21-year-old is just one of many transfer rumours as of yet. Interest from both sides, that is, the Blaugrana and the Manchester City forward, does not make it a foregone conclusion.
The Manchester City forward has just been voted the Spain national team’s Player of the Year. He received this honour for his work the past 12 months. In the span of just a year, Torres has scored eight goals in 15 matches for La Roja.
The 21-year-old is a hugely important figure for Spanish football moving forward, too, in the Spanish national men’s football team.
Coach Luis Enrique is rebuilding his side with a new generation of players. And many of these young stars, such as Pedri, Ansu Fati, Gavi and Eric Garcia, come from Barcelona’s Camp Nou.
Barcelona Are Keen to Bring Ferran Torres Back to Spain
So, it makes perfect sense that Spanish giants Barcelona are showing interest in Manchester City forward and Spaniard Ferran Torres.
It would also be understandable that Torres could see the temptation of an opportunity to return to La Liga. And what better way for the Spaniard to do so that play a part in the Xavi revolution at Barcelona?
After over a season in the Premier League, he is still pushing to become a regular in Pep Guardiola’s side. Indeed, a starting berth for Torres is far more certain on the international stage than it is at his club.
“Ferran is a great player, like others. We are working with discretion to seek the best for the club,” Barca vice-president Rafa Yuste told Movistar Plus after Blaugrana CEO Ferran Reverter allegedly travelled to Manchester to open talks with City for Ferran.
This is something Yuste vehemently denies, however: “We simply have friends at City, there is a very good relationship and Reverter has paid a courtesy visit.”
Meanwhile, Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola refused to entangle himself in any speculation.
“It’s none of my business,” Guardiola said about the ex-Valencia star on Tuesday ahead of City’s clash with Aston Villa.
“You have to call [director of football] Txiki [Begiristain] for that, or the agent for Ferran Torres, or Barcelona, but I’m not the guy to talk about that.”
