Arsenal 4-0 Everton: Champion-elect Arsenal did an excellent job last night in the Premier League. Due to the simple victory over low flyer Everton, the team is now five points clear of close pursuer Manchester City.
For months, the Premier League standings gave a somewhat distorted picture because Arsenal had played a game less than Manchester City. After the duel with Everton, that number would finally be levelled again and The Gunners hoped to expand the gap to five points and thus put a lesser period behind them.
After three losses and a draw, Arsenal finally booked two wins in a row in recent weeks. It did so with considerable effort, by the way. Against Aston Villa, it had to claim stoppage time and Leicester City was defeated with a minimal win (1-0). It was again not great against Everton, but kept the three points relatively easy in-house.
Bukayo Saka opened the scoring just before the break. Everton’s defence overlooked him with a pass from Oleksandr Zinchenko. He was able to open up and shot the ball from a difficult angle high behind goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. Even before the break, the leader of the Premier League also took the 2-0. After Idrissa Gueye’s fumbling, Gabriel Martinelli also found the net.
Second half
The referee gave an advantage, but after the Brazilian shot in, he still whistled for offside. The VAR later decided that the goal should still go ahead. After the break, Martin Ødegaard extended the lead by making it 3-0. He walked into a withdrawn cross from Leandro Trossard. The final chord came from Martinelli who made it 4-0 from close range on a pass from Eddie Nketiah.
The win means that Arsenal is now five points clear of Manchester City and eleven points behind Manchester United, which still has a game in hand. Number nineteen Bournemouth will visit on Saturday, while Manchester City has a difficult pot ahead of them against Newcastle United.
As for Sean Dyche’s Everton, the club are currently 18th in the Premier League. Having amassed 21 points, which is one less than Leeds United. They are also level on points with Bournemouth. The club has also played one more game than every other side in the bottom 5.
