Sam Allardyce leaves Leeds United after four games. Club and trainer will not continue with each other after the relegation to the Championship.
Leeds and Allardyce split up after four matches
Allardyce stepped in to save Leeds from relegation. It was the intention that he would only complete the season, but after the season both parties entered into talks about a possible longer stay. Allardyce and Leeds have agreed it is better to part ways, the club has confirmed.
Allardyce is known for his ability to save ailing teams from relegation. He succeeded at Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland, among others, but it went wrong at Leeds. It is not yet known who will succeed Allardyce, but the name of Brendan Rodgers is singing around on Elland Road. Leeds hope to have a new manager for the group within weeks. Leeds finished 19th in the Premier League this season.
Leicester confirms: Tielemans (26) can be picked up for free after relegation
The other relegated club, Leicester City gave an update on Monday about the players with expiring contracts. The relegated Premier League club says goodbye to seven players, including Youri Tielemans.
A week ago, the curtain fell for Leicester: the 2016 champion was relegated from the Premier League. Eight days later, The Foxes confirmed the departure of seven players with expiring contracts: Youri Tielemans, Caglar Söyüncü, Daniel Amartey, Nampalys Mendy, Ryan Bertrand, Ayoze Pérez and Tetê. They are looking for a new club on a free transfer.
Especially Tielemans and Söyüncü will be in demand. Leicester paid 45 million euros for the former four years ago. In recent years, Tielemans has often been linked to clubs from the sub-top of the Premier League. The 26-year-old Belgian has also had a difficult season, but his transfer-free status makes him an interesting player for a large number of clubs.
Söyüncü in turn seems to have already found a new employer. Atlético Madrid looks set to become the new destination for the 27-year-old Turk, who has played nearly a hundred Premier League matches in Leicester’s defence.
Midfielder Hamza Choudhury also had an expiring contract, but Leicester has lifted the option of an extra season in his commitment. The club is still in talks with captain Jonny Evans about a longer collaboration.
