Dortmund 4-0 Eintracht Frankfurt: Optimism is back at Borussia Dortmund, which, thanks to the next bitter pill for Bayern Munich, is happy to look at the ranking again in three weeks.
Dortmund is happy to look at the ranking again in ‘verrückte’ title fight
BILD headlined after BVB’s clear answer to Bayern’s painful defeat earlier in the day. “Icecold BVB is the new leader. The next round of a Verrückte (crazy) title fight,” wrote the local Ruhr Nachrichten after the new developments in the Bundesliga.
On April 1, Bayern seemed to settle the title fight in its favor with a 4-2 win over Dortmund. The success against the competitor had put the defending German top league champions, FC Bayern Munich back in the lead. Three weeks later, the cards are different again.
The contrast was therefore great on Saturday. While gloom and disbelief prevailed at Bayern Munich about the debacle in Mainz, it was party time in Dortmund. The look at the rankings made it logical that there was a loud voice in the Signal Iduna Park.
“This win feels really good,” said Sebastian Kehl, technical director of BVB. “That’s how we have to play if we want to be at the top at the end of the game. The rankings look very good.”
Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel tempered the euphoria. “The championship is still a long way off. We still have five games to go. But we showed today that we can do it. If we play like this in the next games, it looks very good,” he said.
That’s how trainer Edin Terzic thinks about it: “We did it today and took an important step, but nothing more. There are still five games to go. Now let’s talk about what awaits us next week: a difficult away game (against VfL Bochum). Then we can grab points and increase the buffer a bit.”
