Bayern, Dortmund and Leverkusen registered narrow wins against SC Freiburg, Union Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt respectively. Bayern Munich took sporty revenge on SC Freiburg on Saturday afternoon. The leader of the Bundesliga was eliminated by Freiburg last Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the battle for the DFB-Pokal, but a few days later the Bundesliga was won. Matthijs de Ligt was responsible for that, in a beautiful way.
SC Freiburg 0-1 Bayern Munich
With Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sané, Sadio Mané and Thomas Müller, Bayern had sufficient scoring power on the field in Freiburg, but it was De Ligt who opened the score shortly after the break. With a beautiful shot from a distance he defeated compatriot Mark Flek. Just before the break, Freiburg had become dangerous, an attempt by Ritsu Doan ended up against the post.
With a few saves, Flekken was the reason that it remained exciting for so long. Among other things, he kept Gnabry from scoring with a cat-like reflex. However, De Ligt’s goal turned out to be enough for Bayern to win. Which can now prepare for the clash with Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Borussia Dortmund 2-1 Union Berlin
Donyell Malen has fully blossomed at Borussia Dortmund and already scored his third league goal in a row on Saturday. Against 1. FC Union Berlin, he needed less than twenty minutes to score the 1-0 (see video below). Union, however, proved to be a tough opponent, with the lightning fast Sheraldo Becker up front. The former player of Ajax and PEC Zwolle, among others, served teammate Kevin Behrens for his fifth assist of the season after just over an hour. It was not enough for a point: substitute Youssoufa Moukoko made the winning after a combination with Marco Reus.
Bayer Leverkusen 3-1 Eintracht Frankfurt
In a direct battle for sixth place in the Bundesliga, Bayer Leverkusen has done excellent business with basic player Jeremie Frimpong. When Frimpong was relieved in the 71st minute by compatriot Mitchel Bakker, Leverkusen was 2-0 ahead by Amine Adli and Moussa Diaby. Eintracht Frankfurt did something back fifteen minutes before the end, but partly with the contribution of substitute Daley Sinkgraven, the narrow margin was maintained and even expanded just before time with the help of the left leg. Sardar Azmoun provided the final chord at the request of Sinkgraven. Leverkusen is therefore the new number six in Germany, at the end of the season. That final ranking is good for a place in the front portal of the Conference League.
