World Cup England squad: England coach Gareth Southgate has completed his World Cup selection conundrum for Qatar. Logically, the luxury issue that Southgate has been saddled with is causing a lot of concern now that the names are out there. On social media, there is a lot of confusion over Fikayo Tomori’s absence.
Tomori is having a fantastic season for Milan, but he was not selected for The Three Lions. Many fans would have preferred him over Harry Maguire and Eric Dier, who aren’t in the best form of their lives. Southgate elaborated: “We didn’t think the younger players did enough to drive the senior players out. Maguire is almost certainly one of our centre backs,” Southgate stated at a news conference on Thursday.
Tammy Abraham has also not been called up. “Tammy had a period at the wrong moment when he wasn’t scoring much,” Southgate said of the AS Roma striker. With barely 10 days until the first game, form may become more significant. However, you don’t get the full picture until you start working with the players and observe how they workout together.”
James Maddison is a notable name who made it. The Leicester City miDefenderielder has not been called up to the national squad in three years, but he is back at this critical juncture. “He’s doing well, we’ve always said he’s a good player,” Southgate says. He deserved it because he offers us something different than our other attacking options.”
On Twitter, influential commentator Gary Lineker showed his support for Maddison’s capture. “The correct decision. “Well done Gareth,” Leicester City’s most famous fan tweeted.
At the World Cup, England is in Group B. The team begins its campaign against Iran before facing the United States and Wales. If they advance to the following round, they will face a team from the Netherlands’ group.
