1st half
The first yellow card came in the 6th minute, which Rodrigo Bentancur received for fouling Ruben Dias, whom he caught with the studs on his ankle. The game developed very quickly, and both teams seemed very hungry to win. Nonetheless, none of the teams managed to develop a dangerous situation for the opponent initially. Portugal, who seemed to have everything under control earlier, had to withdraw more and more into the defensive. In the 38th minute there was a second yellow card in the game. Ruben Neves conceded this for tripping Guillermo Varela by grabbing his shoulder. In the 42nd minute, Nuno Mendes was replaced by Raphael Guerreiro. One minute before the official end of the first half, Mathias Olivera receives a yellow card for a handicap. The first half ends with a 0:0 draw.
2nd half
Although the game seemed more or less even, Portugal had a great opportunity in the 54th minute, which they took advantage of. Bruno Fernandes got the ball on the left corner of the box, circled it in the middle and passed it to Cristiano Ronaldo. Uruguay seemed to have woken up quickly from being behind, which is why they were going more and more on the offensive. Uruguay made a double substitution in the 62nd minute. Matias Vecino and Diego Godin leave the field. They are replaced by Giorgian de Arrascaeta and Facundo Pell.
In the 72nd minute – Maximiliano Gomez and Luis Suarez replaced Darwin Nunez and Edison Cavani. In the last 20 minutes before the end of the game, apart from several more substitutions, nothing really worth mentioning happened until, in the 90th minute, Portugal receive a penalty for a handball by Gimenez in their own penalty area. Bruno Fernandes scored the penalty and the game ended a few minutes later with a 2-0 victory for Portugal.
