Atalanta, Juve and Torino registered wins on Wednesday against Spezia, Lecce and Doria respectively. Meanwhile, Salernitana and Fiorentina spoiled shares in a six goal thriller.
Atalanta remains in the race for Champions League football. La Dea won 3-2 against Spezia on Wednesday evening. Juventus also seems to qualify for the billion dollar ball, barring any sanctions. In Turin, Lecce went 2-1 over the knee. In Salerno it was delicious and in Genoa a relegation seems sealed.
Atalanta 3-2 Spezia
Atalanta, with De Roon and Teun Koopmeiners on the field, fell behind against Spezia through a goal from Emmanuel Gyasi before De Roon made it 1-1. The midfielder took a deflected corner on the slipper and completed it beautifully, low into the goal. Davide Zappacosta scored after the break, again from a cleared corner and Luis Muriel put the home side 3-1 up, again from a corner. Spezia came back to 3-2, but that was it. Spezia will have to work hard in the coming weeks to stay in Serie A.
Juventus 2-1 Lecce
Juventus is number two in the Serie A standings for at least a few hours. It was not smooth sailing against Lecce, but the points are in. A free kick from Leandro Paredes set Massimiliano Allegri’s team on the way. Fabio Miretti’s 2-0 was ruled out for offside, after which Assane Ceesay equalized for Lecce from a penalty. Dusan Vlahovic soon put things in order with a nice shot with the 2-1. That was also the final score, after the break was not scored.
Salernitana 3-3 Fiorentina
Fiorentina are eighth in Serie A, with no prospect of more. Logically, all arrows are aimed at the semi-final of the Conference League against FC Basel: AZ or West Ham United awaits in a possible final. On a visit to Salernitana, the Purple Shirts were terrorized by Boulaye Dia, who also spoiled Napoli’s title celebration with a goal on Sunday. Dia scored a hat-trick, but it didn’t score more than a point. At Fiorentina Nicolás González, Jonathan Ikone and Cristiano Biraghi scored against. Tonny Vilhena came on for the home team.
Sampdoria 0-2 Torino
Sampdoria, European Cup I finalist of 1992, is on the verge of relegation. In Stadio Luigi Ferraris, Torino left with the full booty through a goal from Alessandro Buongiorno after half an hour of play and one from Pietro Pellegri deep into stoppage time. Perr Schuurs was replaced fifteen minutes before the end at Torino, which is safely in the middle bracket. At Sampdoria, Bram Nuytinck and Sam Lammers were in the base. The proud club from Genoa is ten points behind the safe places after this new blow, with five games to play, enforcement becomes virtually impossible.
