India national football team – Squad announced: All India Football Federation on Monday announced its 25 man squad. For their international football friendlies against Bahrain and Belarus later this month.
The friendly contests are said to be in anticipation of the final round of the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 qualifying matches, which will be held in Kolkata from June 8 onwards.
The five best second-place will earn a spot in the Asian Cup in China in 2023.
Following impressive performances in the ISL 2021/22 season, a number of young and upcoming players have made the squad. The likes of Prabhsukhan Singh Gill, Hormipam Ruivah, Anwar Ali, Roshan Singh, V P Suhair, Danish Farooq, and Anik Yadav are among the 25.
Indian Super League golden glove winner, Prabhsukhan Singh Gill is among the pick of the bunch. The 21-year-old who kept seven clean sheets in 20 appearances promises to be an exciting prospect.
Igor Štimac, the coach of the national team has promised, these young talents will get playing time against these tough opponents.
“Whatever the rankings are, you need to do it on the pitch. Bahrain will show us where we stand,” said Stimac in an AIFF statement.
“We will give chances to some young players who have played well in the Hero ISL this season. To see how much we can use them for the qualifiers in June.”
