Juventus and Sevilla qualified for the quarter-finals of the Europa League on Thursday evening. That was at the expense of SC Freiburg and Fenerbahçe. Lech Poznan and Fiorentina progressed in the Conference League.
SC Freiburg 0-2 Juventus
Juventus booked an economical victory in the first game last week and therefore still had to work in Freiburg. It was up to Mark Flek to keep the Italians from scoring and to hope that Freiburg would score at least one goal themselves. However, that was not the case for the Germans. Dusan Vlahovic thought he would open the score after half an hour, but after consultation with the VAR, referee Serdar Gözübüyük disallowed his goal for offside.
On the stroke of half time, Gözübüyük intervened again. Manuel Gulde made a hand in his own penalty area and received his second yellow card. Vlahovic claimed the ball and passed Flek from eleven yards. For the Serbian it meant the end of a six-game drought, so he celebrated his goal very exuberantly. With ten men, Freiburg then came no closer to a comeback. The final chord in extra time came from Federico Chiesa.
Fenerbahce 1-0 Sevilla
Sevilla already won 2-0 against Fenerbahçe last week and was therefore on roses. Yet the formation of Jorge Sampaoli was still sweating in Istanbul. Five minutes before the break, Fenerbahçe took the lead via Enner Valencia.
Fenerbahçe searched and searched, but did not score a second goal. The European adventure for the Turkish top club, where Ferdi Kadioglu and Jayden Oosterwolde had a basic place, is therefore over. Record winner Sevilla continues the hunt for its seventh Europa League trophy.
Djurgardens IF 0-3 Lech Poznan
John van den Brom had a wonderful evening in Sweden with Lech Poznan. After the 2-0 win in the first leg, the goals in Stockholm failed to materialize for a long time. Filip Marchwinski made the redeeming 0-1 in the 77th minute, with which the diptych was played. In extra time, Nikoloz Kvekveskiri and Michal Skoras made the evening even more beautiful for the Polish guests.
Sivasspor 1-4 Fiorentina
For a moment, Sivasspor could still hope for a stunt. Erdogan Yesilyurt makes the 1-0 after half an hour, with which the score was equal again over two matches. In the end, Fiorentina thundered over the home team. Goals from Arthur Cabral, Nikola Milenkovic, Dimitrios Goutas and Gaetano Castrovili led the Florentines to a big victory.
