The return of Wolves’ loanee Ki-Jana Hoever in the Netherlands will be limited to only ten games. PSV rented the full-back from Wolverhampton Wanderers this season, but has decided to cut short the rental period.
Hoever is still under contract with Wolverhampton until mid-2025, which took him over from Liverpool in 2020. The English top club in turn plucked Hoever from Ajax’s youth academy. So six months ago it came to a return to the Netherlands, but the collaboration with PSV turned out not to be a happy one.
In the battle for the Johan Cruijff Scale, the right back received a base place from trainer Ruud van Nistelrooij, but then played only seven more matches in PSV’s main force, three of which as a base customer. He also played twice for Jong PSV in the Kitchen Champion Division.
Feyenoord is the leader halfway through the season, but PSV accounted for the most Expected Points. Sparta made the most progress compared to last year.
Hoever’s mission has been anything but successful. The youth international came to the Eredivisie to make minutes. ‘This is the time for me. I’m hungry and want to show myself,” he said in an interview at the start of the season.
It is unclear what will happen to Hoever now. Coincidentally enough, PSV is also working on Wolverhampton for another player. As a mercenary from Anderlecht, striker Fábio Silva is in the same situation as Hoever at PSV. The Portuguese has little time to play at Anderlecht and is well on his way to strengthening the PSV selection.
PSV’s lack of firepower
Speaking about PSV, the team’s coach Ruud van Nistelrooij cannot rely on Luuk de Jong on Tuesday. The intended acquisition Fábio Silva is also not present against FC Emmen.
De Jong had to drop out in the first half on Saturday. After an unfortunate collision with Vitesse defender Melle Meulensteen, the captain disappeared to the dressing room with a head injury.
After the narrow victory, Van Nistelrooij expressed the hope of being able to line up De Jong again on Tuesday. That hope was in vain, because the striker had not recovered sufficiently to come within the lines against FC Emmen. Although there is no question of a concussion, a performance in Drenthe is not an issue.
Fábio Silva is not available as an alternative on Tuesday. The deal with the Portuguese attacker will be finalized shortly, but not in time for the striker to play against Emmen.
