Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes Manchester United’s captain will recover from ligament damage before the Europa League final against Villarreal. With the centre-back out for United’s last three Premier League games, however, Harry Maguire’s Premier League season is over.
Solskjaer’s side have three league games left in the English top-flight.
They face Liverpool tomorrow (Thursday) at Old Trafford before playing Fulham at home the following Tuesday.
United will play their final league match of the campaign against the Wolves, away from home.
However, despite three matches left, United have lost the title to Manchester City, and Maguire’s Premier League season is over.
The United club captain hobbled off, injured, in the win over Aston Villa at the weekend.
He was then seen wearing a protective boot and supporting himself on crutches. This was when he sat in the stand as the Red Devils lost to Leicester on Tuesday night.
Solskjaer’s Words
United head coach Solskjaer said about the captain’s injury: “The good news is it wasn’t broken, there was no fracture, but a ligament injury is serious.”
“I don’t think he’ll play in the league again but we’ll do everything we can to get him ready for the final,” he added, however.
“If I’m very positive that is maybe stretching it, I’m hopeful he might be ready for it (the Europa League final),” he said.
“You always try to look after players long-term,” Solskjaer commented. “If he’s fit he’ll play for us, if he’s not he won’t. We’re hopeful he’s ready and if he’s ready for us he’ll be ready for the Euros.”
