Lisbon is a potential candidate to host the Champions League if the governing body UEFA grants it the go-ahead, BBC reports.
The UEFA may decide to hold an August eight-team CL knockout tournament with these final eight matches played in Lisbon.
This will mean that the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will be played as a mini-tournament behind closed doors at one place. The final of the Champions League would be played on August 23, with the finale of the Europa League on August 21.
Recent debates also focused on idea of the Club World Cup, which will probably give broadcasters and TV audiences the most exciting alternative.
Lisbon has two stadiums that have the infrastructure to host high-profile matches, and hotels to accommodate the number of necessary teams.
Alternatively, Spain, Germany and Russia were mentioned as potential hosts for the Champions League but due to its location and the fact that there are no teams left in the tournament this season, Portugal is seen as the most probably option.
