Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius says he was watched by “half the premier league” before transferring to Manchester City.
“I had offers from all various clubs back then, but Manchester City was out of their way to help me,” the keeper stated to Transfermarkt. “So, I said to myself: I will take up the offer, and I will travel to England.
“At that time, I was only listening to Man City and VfB ’s plans. At that moment, the arrival of investors in clubs was just beginning.”
How did he attract such widespread attention, though? He explained the reason to be his talent as a youth:
“At the time, I was playing in the U16 national team and there were a lot of scouts at the games. At 16 you could sign your first professional contract.
“Man City was in reality a club strongly dependent on its own youngsters. Many have made the breakthrough, the academy has been in a strong place- that’s why I eventually settled on this club.”
Thus, he maintained that he would leave Anfield only if first-team football was on offer.
