Following a three-month break, Granada faced off Getafe as both sides resumed their La Liga campaign.
They won, keeping their Champions League run still alive. Granada has moved up on 41 points to eighth.
On the other hand, with a 2-1 loss behind closed doors at Granada on Friday, Getafe’s Champions League qualification aspirations took a blow.
The result left Getafe in fifth place out of 28 games at 46 points, levelling points with fourth-placed Real Sociedad playing their game in hand on Sunday at home to Osasuna.
The game got off to a slow start after a long suspension of the Spanish League due to the COVID-19 crisis, but Getafe went ahead in the 20th minute when David Timor curled a fine shot from just outside the area under the cross.
70 minutes later, Granada hit back when Djene chested the ball into his own net, after Soria failed to handle Fede Vico’s bouncing free kick.
Timor’s first-half opener was thus cancelled out by Djene’s own goal in the second half.
This was followed by a blunder from goalkeeper David Soria, whose hands were shaky again as Carlos Fernandez scored the winner with 11 minutes remaining. Nine minutes later, the home side doubled their count, as Fernandez fired home after Soria parried his first attempt back into his path.
In other news, Sevilla beat Real Betis 2-0 on Thursday to reach 50 points and tighten their grip on third place.
