Crystal Palace held Manchester City to a goalless draw at Selhurst Park last night. Following the result, the race for the title is now wide open and Liverpool will be able to win the league title as long as they manage to win the remainder of their games.
Defending Premier League Champions, Manchester City were on course to win their second consecutive league title. As the club were thirteen points ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in January.
However, due to sloppy performances by Pep’s men and relentless results by the Reds, that gap is now down to just four. With a win against Arsenal this midweek, the Merseyside team could reduce that to just one.
Title race wide open as City succumbs to Palace
With that being said, LFC and the Citizens are set to clash at the Etihad next month. Which is most likely going to prove to be the difference maker, touted as the title decider.
Various pundits and the players involved had a lot to say regarding this crucial result.
Former Manchester United right back Gary Neville, opines that City are still the favourites for the title race but added with praises of the Liverpool forward line.
“I wouldn’t say it’s 50/50, Man City do just edge it, but Liverpool have got five players up front who are an absolute joke,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“Liverpool gain some confidence, I don’t think Manchester City drop too much confidence, there is a long way to go,” he added.
Former Liverpool man and fellow pundit Jamie Carragher, was all praises of both the teams.
“We are watching two of the greatest teams that have played in the Premier League era,” he said. “They’re two of the best teams we’ve ever seen in the Premier League, you can see it by the points totals that they get.”
Manchester City ace Bernardo Silva felt that despite the disappointing result, his team have the edge in the title race.
“Yeah, tough game. I think we actually played well. We actually controlled the game well apart from one or two times where we lost possession and they counter-attacked. They didn’t create much, we controlled the possession of the game, we controlled their country attacking and we were actually good. Unfortunately, we couldn’t score and we had our chances,” he said to Sky Sports.
“It’s still better to be in our position than Liverpool’s. They still have to play in our stadium as well. So yeah, it’s going to be exciting,” the Portuguese added.
