An optimistic Erik ten Hag has a ‘positive feeling’ about where Manchester United are after his first months at the club. It would be interesting to see how the team would go about things with no Ronaldo to blame. Especially, considering the fact there is a chance of the club spending big this transfer window, to replace the Portuguese.
United is currently fifth in the Premier League and has three points less than number four Tottenham Hotspur, which has already played one game more. For United, who play against Nottingham Forest at home on Tuesday evening, the goal is to catch up with the Londoners as quickly as possible. At the end of the ride, Ten Hag hopes to be with a Champions League ticket.
Ten Hag wants to go for the title but he is realistic
“The club’s aim is of course to play in the Champions League with Manchester United again,” says Ten Hag in an interview. “If we get that, it will feel like our championship. That should always be the goal, but the same goes for Chelsea, Arsenal or Spurs. So the competition is huge and we have to start working on a new success team. Every day again,” the former AFC Ajax manager added.
Ten Hag prefers to go for the title, of course but he is realistic. “We are not yet competitive against Manchester City at the moment,” said the Dutchman. “I still see that club as a step too high at the moment. Just like Arsenal, which is having a super season. But we are not inferior to Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur. I fully expect Liverpool back and I see them together with City as the two teams to beat in England. Below that we have to compete with Chelsea, Newcastle United and Spurs for the ticket to the Champions League. Also because Arsenal is already so far away in the ranking.”
