Alternatives to Harry Kane are considered as attracting the Englishman seems to be a difficult story for Manchester United. According to various British media, manager Erik ten Hag’s club is therefore aiming its sights at Serie A. Atalanta Bergamo striker Rasmus Højlund is said to be in the picture.
Man United sees an alternative to Kane in Serie A
According to Sky Sports, Ten Hag has internally insisted on the arrival of Kane, who scored no less than thirty times for Tottenham Hotspur in the past Premier League season. Kane only has a one-year contract in North London, but the club still refuses to cooperate with a transfer to a direct competitor.
United is therefore looking further: after all, getting a striker has the highest priority. Ten Hag would even prefer to bring two strikers to Old Trafford, because Wout Weghorst seems to be leaving. Napoli top scorer Victor Osimhen has been mentioned for some time, as has Randal Kolo Muani from Eintracht Frankfurt.
According to several English and Italian media, Højlund is also emphatically in the picture. The twenty-year-old Dane has had a strong first season at Atalanta, where he scored ten goals in 34 official matches. The fact that Højlund exchanges his agent for a representative of the same office as Ten Hag fuels the rumours even more.
“If the rumours are true, I must have done something right”
“It is still a trial period,” Højlund emphasised on arrival at the Danish national team in conversation with Tipsbladet on Monday. The reports of interest from Man United excites him, the striker admits. “It’s a huge club, so if the rumours are true, I must have done something right,” said Højlund.
“We’ll see what happens. If you follow the news, I could imagine that a lot of strikers will make a move this summer. After all, there are a lot of clubs that are looking for a number 9. So something is going to happen anyway. We’ll have to see if that also has consequences for me,” says the Dane.
Højlund still has a contract in Bergamo until mid-2027. He concludes, “I am very happy at Atalanta and we have qualified for European football. We’ll see what the future brings.”
