Germany 1-2 Japan: Germany is still reeling from the shock setback in their first World Cup group encounter. Japan was a stumbling block, but the Germans also were quite easy to trump. Ilkay Gündogan, who scored the lone goal for Germany, agreed.
The Man City midfielder was mostly focused on Japan’s 1-2, in which Nico Schlotterbeck was defeated by Takuma Asano. “I’m not sure whether a World Cup goal has ever been easier. This cannot happen since it is the World Cup.” According to Gundogan, he informed the German press. “We dominated throughout the majority of the game. Manuel (Neuer) came through for us in the second half, which is why he’s under the goal. But giving up two goals in 8 minutes was far too simple.”
Germany 1-2 Japan: Skipper and keeper Neuer’s words
Neuer was quite disappointed, Bayern Munich’s goalkeeper conceded twice. “This is quite frustrating. We gave it away because it wasn’t really essential. We had plenty of opportunities, but fortune and bad timing are inextricably linked. Perhaps the desire to score the second goal was lacking, allowing Japan to re-enter the game.”
However, according to Germany’s goalkeeper, the pressure is not mounting. “We’ve been under siege since the beginning. This was our most significant game. The first is the beginning. We have to work together to overcome this situation. I’m not going to attack anyone. We strike and defend as a group. We’ll have to work harder together.”
Hansi Flick, the national coach, was also upset after the loss. “This is a tremendous letdown. Not just for me, but also for the entire squad and the selecting process. Japan outperformed us in terms of efficiency. We should really have cleared the offside at 1-2, but we didn’t. We are now suffering from that type of particular error.”
“This is a whole different team than Japan. As I already stated, Japan has a strong team. They are disciplined, as you witnessed today. They can switch extremely quickly, making it tough for us, they were successful, whereas we were not.”
