Belgium vs Canada: Preview
Belgium’s away shirt must be adjusted for the World Cup. FIFA just doesn’t want the nation to wear that outfit since the inside of the collar says ‘LOVE.’
As a statement of diversity and inclusion, the Belgians would wear an away shirt with a rainbow print. The phrase ‘LOVE’ was inscribed on the interior of the collar, although it was obscured by the collar. Nonetheless, FIFA is putting a stop to the scheme. Because the football organisation does not wish for nations to express political or social statements, it has asked Belgium to change the shirt.
“It’s unfortunate, but FIFA gives us no choice. The rest of the equipment remains the same “The chairman of the Belgian federation, Peter Bossaert, informed Het Nieuwsblad. The organisation now places an additional sticker above the word LOVE. Furthermore, FIFA has prohibited Belgium’s colourful warm-up clothing, the cause for which is unknown.
The announcement comes after the word that World Cup countries are not permitted to use a OneLove band during the competition. A player that does this risks receiving a yellow card. Numerous nations, like Belgium have chosen to refrain from wearing the band as a result.
Predictions
Belgium, despite their FIFA ranking, have struggled in recent fixtures. They will go into the fixture off the back of two consecutive losses, including their recent friendly against Egypt.
On the other hand, their opponents did well in the World Cup qualifiers but are also in rather poor form. All things considered, I do expect the Belgians to register a win in a comfortable manner.
Canada have conceded the first goal in every fixture they have dropped points since June 2019. It is unlikely they will open the scoring in this fixture.
