A third of the 32 national coaches who were in charge at the World Cup in Qatar are now out of work. And that number can still increase, it is not yet officially known whether six men of choice at the World Cup will stay on. Sixteen national coaches will remain in their position for the time being.

Louis van Gaal was already known at an early stage that he would leave the Orange squad after the World Cup. The role of Van Gaal will be taken over by Ronald Koeman from January. National coaches Carlos Queiroz (Iran) and Roberto Martínez (Belgium) also decided to leave themselves. Although, according to Belgian media, Martínez knew that his contract would not be extended until December 31.

National coaches Tite (Brazil), Gerardo Martino (Mexico), Luis Enrique (Spain), Otto Addo (Ghana), Diego Alonso (Uruguay), South Korea (Paulo Bento), Fernando Santos (Portugal) were put aside. The fate of Czeslaw Michniewicz (Poland), Gustavo Alfaro (Ecuador), Didier Deschamps (France), Gregg Berhalter (United States), Zlatko Dalic (Croatia), and Kasper Hjulmand (Denmark) is not yet clear. The French federation announced a day after the lost World Cup final that talks will be held with Deschamps in January.

World champion Lionel Scaloni of Argentina will (obviously) stay with the Argentine federation. Also Gareth Southgate (England), Félix Sanchez (Qatar), Aliou Cissé (Senegal), Rob Page (Wales), Hervé Renard (Saudi Arabia), Graham Arnold (Australia), Jalel Kadri (Tunisia), Dragan Stojkovic (Serbia), Rigobert Song (Cameroon), Murat Yakin (Switzerland), John Herdman (Canada), Walid Regragui (Morocco), Hansi Flick (Germany), Hajime Moriyasu (Japan) and Luis Fernando Suárez (Costa Rica) do not have to go after the World Cup leave.
