Napoli 3-0 Eintracht Frankfurt: Napoli have reached the last eight of the Champions League for the first time in club history. A second, simple victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday evening was more than enough to survive the eighth final. Victor Osimhen was the great man on the Neapolitan side.
Napoli continues fairytale season with a first in club history
Chelsea was too strong in 2012, Real Madrid in 2017 and Barcelona in 2020. In the Champions League past, Napoli encountered only strong teams in the eighth final, but was a bit more lucky this season. There was no top team with Frankfurt. And Napoli is of course in the shape of his life.
That was clearly visible in the diptych. Especially in the home game, Frankfurt had no chance against the Italian machine of trainer Luciano Spalletti. Taste maker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia had the greatest chances in the first half, but it was Osimhen who broke the spell. Just before the break, he was able to head in in complete freedom. Shortly in the second half, he also made the second of the evening with a ticker, after which Napoli ran out to 3-0 via a penalty kick from Piotr Zielinski. The game ended in 0-2.
Napoli goes to the quarter-finals of the Champions League together with AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Benfica, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Internazionale. The draw for this round will take place on March 17, the matches will be played on April 11-12 and April 18-19.
Selfless Osimhen chooses teammate over hat-trick
Victor Osimhen already had two goals in his pocket on Wednesday evening when Napoli was awarded a penalty kick. A great chance for a hat trick, but not Osimhen, but Piotr Zielinski got behind the ball.
According to the Nigerian himself, the most normal thing in the world. “Zielinski asked if he could take it and I said, of course. I am a team player. It doesn’t matter who scores as long as the team is successful. That is the most important. It’s good to have this mentality with the team,” he said.
Osimhen (24) has four goals in five Champions League matches after his goals against Eintracht Frankfurt. The striker believes his team can go for the title win. He added, “I think anything is possible. We have the team to make this dream a reality. We are a top club. It would be good to draw a very good club now. We are ready, we are ready for any big team.”
