37-year-old David Silva has extended his expiring contract with Real Sociedad for a year. The midfielder, who will turn 38 in January next year, is therefore facing a return to the Champions League.
The magic does not disappear: David Silva is about to return to the Champions League
Silva played for Manchester City for ten years and returned to Spain in the summer of 2020 to play for Real Sociedad. The team is now having a great season. Real Sociedad is fourth in La Liga with five games to play, seven points ahead of number five Villarreal.
Real Sociedad is therefore well on its way to participating in the Champions League and Silva wants to experience that. The 125-time international, despite his age an important basic player in Imanol Alguacil’s team, has decided to stick to it for at least another season.
“The magic does not disappear,” Real Sociedad reports in a video announcing the contract news about Silva.
“With or without Messi: this Barcelona will not win the Champions League”
Speaking of a return to Spain, Lionel Messi’s future is a hot topic. The Argentine superstar is almost certain to leave Paris Saint-Germain and has been widely linked with a return to Barcelona. Real Madrid icon Guti advises Messi to refrain from doing so.
Messi (35) is working on his second season at PSG, which the attacker took over from Barcelona on a free transfer in the summer of 2021. At that club, Messi had previously become the best footballer in the world. He played no less than 778 games for Barcelona, in which he scored 672 goals. With the Catalans, Messi won the Champions League four times.
At Barcelona they are happy to see Messi return to the Camp Nou, but not everyone believes that this would be a good idea. For example, Guti thinks Messi should choose something else: and that has nothing to do with the feeling Guti has with Barcelona’s rival Real Madrid.
“If I were Messi, I wouldn’t return to Barcelona,” Guti told El Chiringuito. “He has already won everything there is to win. The challenge is just too great right now. With or without Messi: this Barcelona will not win the Champions League.’
Messi is under fire in Paris for an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia and on Wednesday part of the supporters made it clear that she is completely done with the Argentinian. According to rumors, there are three clubs in the race for the summer arrival of the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner: in addition to Barcelona, these are Inter Miami (US) and Al-Hilal (Saudi Arabia).
