Among other of yesterday’s Europa League football results, SC Braga lost 2-0 to FC Sheriff away on Thursday night. This was a football match yesterday, in the first leg of the playoff to Europa League’s round of 16.
It was a cold late afternoon in Tiraspol, but the emotions, on the contrary, were running very hot. The Gverreiros faced the team that surprised all of European football, with the ambition to move forward in Europa League.
Europa League Football Results – SC Braga Lost 2-0 to FC Sheriff
The game was lukewarm in the first half, with few opportunities close to both sides’ goalposts.
The Arsenalistas’ first-half greatest scoring opportunity came in the 28th minute, with Ricardo Horta ‘popping’ the ball over Athanasiadis. But Evangelou deflected the goal on the line.
Near the end of the first half, for the Moldovans, in the conversion of a penalty, Thill opened the scoring. So, the hosts were up by 1-0 on the scoreboard at the end of the first half.
Then, both the sides had much work to do in the remaining 45 minutes as the second half began. As in the first half, SC Braga controlled the match, while the home team tried to surprise on the counterattack.
However, the Sheriff defence closed pathways to their goal well. Carlos Carvalhal, close to game time, launched Abel Ruiz, André Horta and Francisco Moura into action. These gave greater vivacity to the Arsenal attack.
Roger was the last card of the Gverreiros in the match, looking for a positive result.
However, Adama Traoré took advantage of a mistake by Bruno Rodrigues to make it 2-0. This was a moment when SC Braga had found balance in the attack. This eventual 2-0 result is too heavy for how the two teams actually played during the 90 minutes.
But, we are hopeful that everything is still open in the tie. Now, this match will see out its return leg via a trip to CD Tondela, on Sunday, at 8:45 pm.
