Leeds United linked Sam Allardyce would be a great move for the club and looking at the financial picture alone, it is advisable for the experienced manager to accept the offer of the club in relegation trouble. The financial details of the (short) deal have been leaked.
Almost a million euros per game: “Mega bonus beckons for Allardyce”
With four games to go, Leeds is just above the relegation zone and so there is panic among the three-time national champions. The club thinks it can stay in the Premier League with Allardyce, so the offer to tie the 68-year-old coach short is considerable.
According to The Times, Allardyce can expect a base salary of half a million pounds if he is four games ahead of the Leeds group. The survival bonus? No less than 2.5 million pounds. For example, Allardyce can collect almost 3.5 million euros through four matches. The Englishman has built up a nice resume at the bottom of the Premier League. He kept Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers, West Ham United, Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Everton (which had started badly in the 2017/18 season) in the Premier League.
However, there is a chance that even Allardyce will not be able to keep Leeds in the Premier League. The club is having a very mediocre season and closes the Premier League with Manchester City, Newcastle United, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur as opponents. Allardyce last worked as a coach in 2021, when he was unable to save West Bromwich Albion from relegation.
Manchester United don’t need a new number one
Staying in the Prem, Manchester United would do well to continue with David de Gea, says Kasper Schmeichel. With the Spaniard, Erik ten Hag’s club already has a ‘top keeper’ in house, while a replacement would cost a lot of money.
Manchester United and De Gea are in talks about extending his expiring contract, but there is no white smoke about it yet. Schmeichel would know if he was in charge. “They have an incredible goalkeeper and servant in the house,” the current OGC Nice goalkeeper tells Sky Sports. “It’s an incredible achievement to play for twelve years at the same club.”
Although De Gea has always been trusted, there was also regular criticism. That was no different this season, as he made the necessary mistakes every now and then. “This season he has been asked to play in a completely different way than he is used to,” says Schmeichel. “People often see the things that go wrong, but there are also a lot of things that go right. There has never been any discussion about his goalkeeper qualities, it’s almost outrageous how good he is.”
“If Manchester United had to replace him, you’re going to pay around £60 million. They already have a world-class goalkeeper who is eager to stay. So I think they will work it out with him. They don’t need a new number one,” says the former goalkeeper of Leicester City, among others.
In the unlikely event that that does not work, Manchester United has another keeper under contract with Dean Henderson. Henderson is on loan to Nottingham Forest this season. And is still committed to Old Trafford until the summer of 2025.
