On Monday, Ukraine will face Austria in Euro 2020 Group C, and we present Euro 2020 predictions – Ukraine vs Austria.
Both sides are on three points after both overcame North Macedonia and lost to the Netherlands in their first two matches.
Most recently, Netherlands beat Austria 2-1, almost as we predicted in our football updates. Elsewhere in Group C, Ukraine won by the same score over North Macedonia for their second Euro 2020 match.
So, with such even results, a draw here would very probably see both teams advance to the knockout stages.
Team news
Ukraine
- Ukraine may have the temptation to field the same team that overcame North Macedonia in their previous match here too.
- Because of Oleksandr Zubkov’s absence from the win when last week ended, Atalanta’s Ruslan Malinovskiy could continue in attack.
Ukraine possible starting lineup: Bushchan; Karavayev, Zabarnyi, Matviyenko, Mykolenko; Shaparenko, Stepanenko, Zinchenko; Yarmolenko, Yaremchuk, Malinovskiy
Austria
- Austria’s defeat to the Netherlands last week was abysmal, and manager Franco Foda will almost certainly shift his squad.
- He may move David Alaba out of the center of defense to get him more involved in the game.
- Sasa Kalajdzic will fight for a recall, in the meantime, while Marko Arnautovic may return for this match on Monday. After all, in the last match between the two teams, in 2012, Arnautovic scored two goals.
Austria possible starting lineup: Bachmann; Dragovic, Alaba, Hinteregger; Lainer, Laimer, Schlager, Sabitzer, Ulmer; Kalajdzic, Arnautovic
Euro 2020 Predictions – Ukraine vs Austria
- Both Ukraine and Austria are tied for third place in Group C going into the last game. However, the former only needs to avoid defeat to finish second.
- Austria struggled against the Netherlands last week, so Ukraine has to be our favorite moving into Monday’s match.
It’s tough to see anything other than a draw assuring second place for Ukraine in this match. Austria will, in all likelihood, also progress to the last 16.
However, Ukraine’s has had a lot more polish than Austria’s thus far. So, Foda’s team may be in trouble if they surrender first.
