Chelsea and Everton registered wins on saturday against Leicester and Brentford respectively. Meanwhile, Leeds United and Brighton spoiled the shares in a four goal fixture.
Leicester City 1-3 Chelsea
Chelsea went into a league game with a good feeling for the first time in a long time: the quarter-finals of the Champions League were reached during the week at the expense of Borussia Dortmund . Before that Chelsea had won against Leeds United, it was the first time since October that Chelsea won two games in a row.
On Saturday, the series was lifted to three matches, although it was not easy against Leicester City. After Ben Chilwell’s opening goal – against his former employer – Patson Daka equalized on behalf of the home club six minutes before the break. Twelve minutes later Chelsea took the lead again and that was before the break. In the sixth minute of extra time, Enzo Fernández spooned the ball wonderfully towards Kai Havertz, who finished it off.
That seemed to be the last goal of the afternoon, also because Mykhailo Mudryk saw a goal disallowed for offside. The very expensive Chelsea acquisition, however, was still involved in a goal a few minutes later. With the head he delivered his first Premier League assist, Mateo Kovacic just scored his first Premier League goal of the season. Leicester ended the game with ten men, Wout Faes received his second yellow card in the final phase.
Leeds United 2-2 Brighton & Hove Albion
Brighton & Hove Albion is one of the surprises in the Premier League this season, but the team did not disappoint against Leeds United for the first time in recent weeks. After draws against Leicester City (2-2) and Crystal Palace (1-1), there was also no more than a point against Leeds. This was an important point for the home team in the fight against relegation. Leeds fought back from behind twice.
With Crysencio Summerville in the base and Pascal Struijk on the bench, Leeds saw Brighton open the score. The visitors, where Joël Veltman started and Jan Paul van Hecke came on, owed their lead to a striking header from Alexis Mac Allister. Before the break, Patrick Bamford made it 1-1 after preparatory work from Jack Harrison. The latter played a leading role in the second half. First he unfortunately tapped the ball into his own goal with a Brighton cross. More than fifteen minutes later, Harrison made up for that moment by curling the ball into the far corner after a short corner kick to make it 2-2.
Everton 1-0 Brentford
Everton is slowly moving away from England’s relegation zone and took another step towards preservation on Saturday. A great victory was booked against sub-topper Brentford. The victory came after just 35 seconds, within the minute Dwight McNeil scored the only goal of the game.
