Recent reports have linked Barcelona defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets to a transfer to Major League Soccer, in the United States. But while reports suggest Busquets may move from La Liga to MLS, the Barca star himself denies these associations.
Busquets May Move from La Liga to MLS
Though the La Liga giants are generating funds to enhance their ranks, Barcelona have mooted a summer switch for Busquets.
In fact, he is tied to Barca with a contract through to 2023.
Nonetheless, there’s talk of the World Cup winner drifting away from his roots by enticing offers from the United States.
However, Busquets, a long-serving player in Catalunya, claims to have received no offers to leave Barcelona for MLS.
Busquets, who is still chasing down Euro 2020 glory with Spain, insists those approaches are yet to come, telling El Partidazo de Cope when quizzed on the MLS rumours: “I have a valid contract and I am very comfortable at the club.”
The World Cup-winning midfielder thus claims to be fully focused on life at Camp Nou despite seeing a summer switch collapse.
Indeed, he is still hoping to line up alongside Lionel Messi at Camp Nou in 2021-22.
Busquets Still Hopes to Continue Playing with Messi
Besides himself, Sergio Busquets also wants another player, his Barcelona teammate and captain Lionel Messi, to stay in La Liga.
And while Barcelona have a wholesale on players, even president Joan Laporta’s primary objective is to extend Lionel Messi’s contract.
After all, Messi is already a free agent, after his contract expired on the midnight strike on 1st July, 2021.
But, in good news, the president and Mateu Alemany are working hard to reduce the salary bill to accommodate Messi.
So, Busquets has said optimistically: “I trust the president and Leo’s feeling. I wish him the best and I hope we can continue playing together for years.”
