Granada held Villarreal to a frustrating 0-0 draw on Monday, in their debut for the 2021/22 La Liga season. And because the same happened to Elche and Athletic Bilbao, both the La Liga matches yesterday ended in scoreless draws.
On the night on the Spanish east coast, neither of the four sides was able to find a breakthrough.
The hosts were especially disappointed as they did not get to take all three points despite their better home chances.
Both the La Liga Matches Yesterday Ended in Scoreless Draws
The Yellow Submarine started brightly as hosts in their La Liga opener football match at home.
For instance, summer signing Aissa Mandi poked just wide of the goalpost early on and Aaron Escandell denied Yeremi Pino.
Meanwhile, before the break, Escandell was the stand-in goalkeeper for Robert Moreno’s side, making a crucial save from Gerard Moreno.
However, Unai Emery’s team struggled to maintain their initial intensity after a flurry of substitutions after restarting the second half.
Manu Trigueros even squandered an excellent chance with 20 minutes remaining at the Estadio de la Ceramica.
Then, Villarreal’s chances of grabbing a late winner were effectively over when Juan Foyth had to quit the pitch. He had to leave the match because he received a second yellow card in the final minutes.
Now, Emery’s next assignment is a trip to newly-promoted Espanyol this weekend, while Granada hosts Valencia.

The second match of the day Elche and Athletic Bilbao played with the same result, a scoreless draw, viz. 0-0.
