Juventus has been deducted ten points. That is the outcome of the new twist in the scandal surrounding the Italian top club. Judgment was handed down on Monday.
Knockout blow for scandalous Juventus\
In January, Juventus were initially deducted 15 points as a result of an investigation by the Italian Football Federation. The club successfully appealed against that penalty and got the fifteen points back for a while. The prosecutor of the Italian Football Association had the case again heard and on Monday in Rome a decision was made by a committee. Where an eleven-point penalty was demanded, the outcome was a ten-point penalty deducted.
Juventus, for example, drops from second place to seventh place. Missing out on Champions League football will obviously have major consequences in Turin. Juve thus pay the price for the financial irregularities. The club is accused of cheating with the values of players with false accounting in order to boost the annual figures.
Mourinho lashes out after Juventus penalty: “One big joke”
Jose Mourinho does not accept that Juventus has now received a new point penalty from the Italian federation. He thinks the penalty will negatively affect the outcome of Serie A.
Juventus has to hand in ten points again. That happened on Monday evening, just before the match against Empoli, which was eventually lost 4-1. Juventus suddenly dropped from second place to seventh place in the ranking. “For me this is one big joke because this is being decided when there are only two games left to play. This concerns us all,” said Mourinho.
Mourinho thinks Juventus deserved the points: “I feel bad for them. To be fair, this points penalty affects the competition. If they had said this before the game against Monza or Bologna, we would have looked at the competition differently. Then we would have put everything on the Europa League.”
Due to the points penalty, Juventus is seventh in the ranking with 59 points. Mourinho’s AS Roma has one more point. The first six in Italy qualify for European football, but Juventus may still be able to enter the Conference League as number seven. Then number three Internazionale must win the Coppa Italia at the expense of Fiorentina.
