PSG 2-3 Clermont: Paris Saint-Germain ended the season with a home defeat against mid-engine Clermont Foot. The whistled Lionel Messi and the scoring Sergio Ramos said goodbye to the club on an emotional evening with a hangover, where they both played for two years.
Ramos opened the scoring in the sixteenth minute
PSG already became champion of France last week and Saturday’s game no longer had any sporting importance. The players and fans paid particular attention to a nice statement of support for Sergio Rico, who is in hospital after an accident. Ramos opened the scoring in the sixteenth minute (sixteen happens to be Rico’s back number at PSG) with a striking header.
Kylian Mbappé made it 2-0 by using a penalty kick and PSG seemed to be heading for a simple victory. After a bumbling from Marco Verratti, Johan Gastien did something back, after which Clermont was awarded a penalty kick not much later. However, this one was missed by Grejohn Kyei.
Nevertheless, Clermont equalized before the break. Just before the trip to the dressing room, Mehdi Zeffane made it 2-2. PSG therefore had to look for a new lead in the second half and Messi had a great opportunity to do so. Face to face with Clermont goalkeeper Mory Diaw, however, he did not hit the ball well and shot high over. Moments later, Messi found the same Diaw in his path.
Second half
A goal in his farewell match was not an option for Messi, who saw Clermont take the lead on the other side. Kyei ran into a sharp cross and made it 2-3. The assist for this goal came from Elbasan Rashani, who almost scored himself moments later with an unparalleled heel ball. However, the bet came against Gianluigi Donnarumma, so that PSG remained in the game.
The home team certainly did not do everything possible to force an equalizer. At PSG they seemed to like it and the game rippled to the end without too much spectacle. This is how Ramos and Messi lost their last duel in French service. Whether it was also coach Christophe Galtier’s farewell match will soon become clear.
