Celta Vigo 2-1 Barcelona: Celta de Vigo did itself an excellent service on Sunday by treating Barcelona to a surprising defeat (2-1). That means that Celta will be retained for La Liga. That also applies to Justin Kluivert’s Valencia. For Real Valladolid, the adventure at the highest level is over.
Celta explodes Balaídos with a win over Barça, Valencia also remains in La Liga
On the final day of La Liga, six clubs still had to fear relegation. That also applied to Celta, but the team showed its best side in its own Estadio de Balaídos. Franck Kessié thought to give Barcelona the lead, but the VAR put a line through that goal due to offside. On the other hand, a goal from Celta also fell through.
Barely a minute later, the home team opened the score. Gabri Veiga underlined his strong development with a goal against the national champion (1-0). The 21-year-old talent did that again after the break. Iñaki Peña, who relieved Marc-André ter Stegen after an hour, had no answer to Vigo’s effort. He was halfway between a cross and a shot on goal (2-0).
Fati finally delivers
In the final phase, Ansu Fati did something back on behalf of Barça, where Frenkie de Jong started in the base. The visitors did not get further than the substitute’s goal. That means that Celta celebrated the preservation with a great victory. The grapes were sour for Ter Stegen, as the German goalie from Barcelona missed a special record.
Real Betis 1-1 Valencia
Valencia also had to fear relegation, although the club from the orange city had a good starting position. Still, it was a shock when Real Betis took the lead within a minute through a goal from Ayoze Pérez (1-0). Twenty minutes before the end, Diego López tied the score (1-1). That was more than enough for Kluivert – who was substituted in the 77th minute – and his teammates to save the day. Valencia ended the game with ten men, because substitute Yunus Musah received another red card.
In the last five games, Real Betis have won two, drawn twice and lost once, while Valencia have two wins, two draws and one defeat. This was Real Betis’ ninth draw this season.
Elche 1-1 Cadiz
Cadiz lost points in the Primera División in the away match against Elche. The game ended 1-1. Cadiz took an early lead, when Gonzalo Escalante scored after 10 minutes, with an assist from Federico San Emeterio Díaz. It took a while for either team to score again. Lucas Boyé equalized for Elche in the 71st minute with an assist from Gerard Gumbau Garriga. In the last five matches, Elche have won two wins and drawn three times, while Cadiz have two wins, one draw and two losses. This was Elche’s tenth draw this season.
