Abdenasser El Khayati signs for Chennaiyin from Willem II on a free transfer. Interestingly, El Khayati signed a deal with Willem II in March that would continue until the end of the previous campaign. He ultimately only made five Eredivisie appearances, and he was relegated alongside his team.
After leaving ADO Den Haag in the summer of 2021. The playmaker remained clubless before signing a contract with Willem II.
El Khayati, 33, has worked outside of Europe twice, the second time being with Chennaiyin. From the summer of 2019, he played with Qatar SC for a whole season. In his playing career, El Khayati also donned the jerseys of Queens Park Rangers, FC Den Bosch, and Burton Albion.
The player, who is of Moroccan heritage, will join a midfield that already has a number of seasoned players, like Julius Duker and Anirudh Thapa, giving coach Thomas Brdaric more alternatives to try out different lineups with the team.
