Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is said to be in contention for the Newcastle United job after the takeover of the Premier League club has been completed.
Zidane has been included on the ‘next manager’ list of leading bookmakers, along with Flamengo boss Jorge Jesus and Toon favourite Kevin Keegan.
Mauricio Pochettino was thought to be the frontrunner to take charge of St James’ Park, but Madrid’s manager Zidane has not only entered the race, but is now apparently leading it.
In his first spell, the Frenchman won 10 major honours as boss of Madrid and returned for a second time in March 2019.
Newcastle is waiting for the green light from the league officials for a Saudi-led consortium to finalize a purchase of £300 m, which is expected to be completed in the next few weeks.
The new owners are said to be keen to replace current boss Steve Bruce with their own man in preparation for the 2020-21 campaign according to Shields Gazette.
