Real Madrid, for first time after two months of isolation, started training in smaller groups today.
Thibaut Courtois of Real Madrid had caused a stir before two weeks by suggesting that if the season were to be cancelled, it would have been unfair to hand over the title to Barcelona, who is currently sitting at top of Primera.
“At no point did I say that Real Madrid had to be declared champions. If the league ends, we’re in a better position even if we lost to Betis. If we play the 11 remaining matches then I am confident that my team can win the league”, Courtois confirmed in an interview with Television Espanola.
La Liga remains hopeful that the competition can resume where it had left off before the COVID-19 pandemic took hold in Europe, although no concrete date has been set for a restart.
In any case, Zinedine Zidane’s squad returned to training on Monday, following the guidelines put in place by the Spanish Government.
Courtois explained how the session went: “It’s individual training and we have to disinfect everything. It was strange, different from normal but feeling the grass and being able to train is better than nothing.”
Apparently, members of the professional staff wore masks. “We have to wear gloves and a mask, be two meters from each other,” Courtois added.
