Four Sevilla players recently violated quarantine laws by going to a party. These laws, ironically, are intended to get Spain to rise up and run professional football again after being struck hard by the coronavirus crisis.
Now, the Sevilla stars- Lucas Ocampos, Franco Vazquez, Luuk de Jong and Ever Banega- have given public apologies.
The La Liga policy advises that players leave their homes only to train and for important purposes.
However, Banega’s wife posted pictures of a Saturday party with the four players at the party on various social networks, but then deleted it. That is how they were caught red-handed in public.
Policy controls have also restricted gatherings in homes to 10 or fewer participants. But the pictures show a group of more than that present number.
The players have all written their apologies on social media.
Ocampos posted on Instagram: “I want to ask forgiveness and I acknowledge we have made a mistake, hurting the club’s image. We apologize to the club, all our team-mates, the technical staff and society at large for this. We promise we have learned our lesson and are not going to repeat it again.”
Vazquez echoed his thoughts, saying: “We recognize that it was a mistake with regard to what happened yesterday and we want to apologize. We let everybody down: team-mates, coaching staff, the club and La Liga, but we learned our lesson. We’re not going to do it again and we expect the football will come back soon.”
De Jong stated: “I would like to say apologies to anyone who has been upset because of what occurred yesterday. That won’t be repeated. We just want to go back to play.”
“I’d like to apologize about what happened yesterday.” said Banega, whose wife posted the pictures. “It was a relatives and friends meeting but unconsciously we weren’t right. We want to ask forgiveness from our club, our fans and society for this. This isn’t going to happen again. What we want is to go back to practicing as soon as possible.”
