Quique Setien played down the talk of the forward leaving the Catalan giants Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Setien said: “He will leave Barcelona for free? No, it won’t happen. Messi and Barcelona will always be united.”
Messi has been in Barca since 2001, scoring a total of 627 goals from 718 appearances in the first team.
Under the terms of his deal, Messi is said to be in a position to move to a new team at the end of this season, resulting in rumors of a possible transfer to Inter Milan.
Amid the rumour that the club had been in conflicts behind the scenes, Setien dismissed the idea that Lionel Messi might leave Barcelona on a free transfer later in 2020:
“It’s just like that. Leo has been at Barca for 20 years and nobody could explain a breakdown situation.”
