Jean-Clair Todibo joined Schalke on a loan from Barcelona in the January transfer window. Now, there is a lot of talk about him moving away from Camp Nou this summer, but the Frenchman would be happy to stay in the German club on a permanent basis.
Everything is perfect. I like the stadium, how incredibly passionate the fans are, the coach [David Wagner] gives me confidence… I settled in quickly,” Todibo told Bild.
“First I want to finish the season here and secure a good position in the table,” he went on. “And in relation to my future, the truth is that I imagine staying here.
However, this is a question of finance, as Schalke could struggle to pay the right to purchase an amount negotiated with Barcelona for Todibo: 25 million euros plus 5 million in add-ons.
So, while Todibo would like to remain with the Royal Blues, the club’s sports director was pragmatic about their chances of being able to pay the transfer fee.
“You don’t have to be a visionary to say that the real chance of him staying has diminished with the coronavirus crisis,” said Jochen Schneider.
Barcelona, therefore, hopes either to sell Todibo to another club or to include him in a future swap contract.
