Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez sent the gossip mill whirling on Sunday when on Wednesday morning he vowed to announce a new club, having previously been strongly tied to a move to Manchester United.
The 25-year-old has now further confirmed that his “new club” announcement has to do with a football project in his hometown Elche.
Saul has declared, after keeping fans waiting for nearly an hour longer than anticipated, that he will establish ‘Club Costa City’ in Elche, which will gather more than 30 teams and 500 players from different age groups ahead of the 2020-21 season.
“We have been developing this exciting and beautiful project for several years and I am very happy to be able to present it and make it official today,” Saul said in a statement.
The initiative will concentrate on boys and girls between the ages of four and 18 and seeks to “provide the youngest a holistic education from a personal and sporting point of view so that they can join the soccer elite,”
“The priority of Club Costa City is the comprehensive training of players with the aim of generating healthy lifestyle habits in them, as well as sports and educational training through great values that sport brings to society,” he mentioned as another reason to initiate the project.
He finished, “I want to thank in advance all the families who trust us for the formation of their sons and daughters: our obligation and responsibility will be to train great people.”
