Ralf Rangnick reported that Milan was in contact with him to negotiate his availability, in wake of the speculation that the former RB Leipzig manager was indeed considered by Milan to become the next head coach of the club.
“I can’t absolutely rule it out. Milan questioned me for my availability, I informed Red Bull, and there were talks with my agent. “Rangnick told Bild. “After the communication, the coronavirus epidemic came and more critical problems came up. Milan and the Lega had other stuff to consider.”
The 52-year-old was brought in last June to succeed Genarro Gattuso in the hot seat but only lasted four months in the job before he was replaced by Stefano Pioli.
For the Rossoneri, who slipped to 13th in Serie A under Marco Giampaolo after a weak start to the campaign, the 2019-20 season has been a tumultuous one.
In recent months, Rangnick has been strongly associated with the top job at San Siro, having sculpted a sterling reputation in Germany over the past two decades.
Rangnick admitted nevertheless that he should be open to the possibility of joining Milan, thus confirming that negotiations with the Italian giants took place before the season’s coronavirus caused break.
