June 12 is the date proposed on Sunday by the president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, to resume the league. Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, however, disagrees with this schedule for the start of La Liga.
“I’d like the season to start on June 12, but that’s going to depend on the numbers.” Tebas told Movistar Sunday (via Goal). “At the end of the day it would be up to the health authorities to justify what should be accomplished. We don’t hurry, we aren’t the ones that dictate the stages.”
Pique, though, said he’d rather complete the campaign later than Tebas proposed.
“I realise the importance of La Liga in completing the season because there is a lot at risk. It would be very messy to win the league this way, despite becoming champions.” Pique told Movistar.
“I heard Javier speaking of playing again on the 12th … We have spent a lot of time out of practice and we need to bear in mind that we have to be fully trained and minimize the possibility of injuries. If I could give my view, we wouldn’t be hurt by a few extra days,” he went on.
Barca was two points ahead of Real Madrid’s fierce rivals after 27 matches, until the season was suspended owing to the March coronavirus pandemic.
With players preparing to adjust to this month’s personalized preparation, Tebas is aiming for a return to the field this month.
