Wilfried Zaha has been warned not to move to Newcastle United by Peter Ramage, a former Magpies and Eagles defender.
After their proposed Saudi takeover, the Crystal Palace star is linked to a lucrative move to Newcastle, but Ramage claims it “would not be a good move for him” because it would mainly be for money.
Ramage also believes it is Palace’s time to cash in on the player who first joined them at the age of 12. He maintains that the move will also help Zaha:
“I have even seen him linked with the top clubs in Europe and he is coming up to 28 now, and the longer he waits, the less of an opportunity he will get.”
“Clearly everybody at Palace would love [him] to stay and the club would create a squad around him to get into those Premier League top ranks.
“But from Wilf’s point of view, will that be realistic? Probably not.'”
The Ivory Coast forward is signed at Selhurst Park until 2023 but has been linked in past transfer windows to a range of ‘big six’ clubs.
Simultaneously, the Crystal Palace star has been linked to an expensive move to St James’ Park following Saudi’s planned purchase of £300million.
Ramage, who came through the ranks with Newcastle and later played for Palace, claims that Zaha will be better off joining a top club than going in a money-motivated move to the Magpies.
“It will be bittersweet. I think Wilf is now at a moment in his career where if he has aspirations to get to that next level in his career, with all due respect to Palace, he is going to leave,” Peter Ramage said, speaking on the Back of The Nest podcast.
“Newcastle wouldn’t be a good choice for him in that way, and clearly if he came to Newcastle it would be more the financial factor than anything else, but we’re only talking hypothetically here.”
