Neymar allegedly told Paris Saint-Germain that he did not want to sign a new contract at the club and instead decided to move on to Barcelona.
The Brazilian winger became the most expensive player of all time when he traded Camp Nou for Parc des Princes in a $198 m contract three years ago.
However, there has been intense speculation about his future ever since, in the midst of repeated links with his return to Spain. Barcelona too, remained interested in re-signing him to reunite the famous ‘MSN’ partnership with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
Neymar endured frequent injury issues during his tenure at the PSG, but he nevertheless made a significant contribution to 108 goals in just 80 club appearances. Recent reports have even indicated that Neymar is becoming more open to extending his stay in the French capital.
However, the Spanish Outlet Sport argues that he will demand a move this summer and refuse any effort to bind him to a new contract.
The new contract for the 28-year-old expires in 2022, but PSG is mindful that his selling value declines with each passing year and may thus consider cashing in on it.
The report goes on to suggest that the current French champions should give priority to the future of Kylian Mbappe, whose contract also expires in 2022.
