The opening round of the MLS tournament will be played at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World without fans in the bleachers.
Teams had only played two games to start the season before the league suspended play due to the coronavirus outbreak on March 12.
The league’s 26 teams will now be split into six groups. Each team will have three group matches, with multiple games per day, played over 16 consecutive days. Group matches will count towards standings for the regular season.
Sixteen teams will then advance to the knockout round, with the winner earning a spot in the Concacaf Champions League in 2021, according to The Guardian.
On 24 June, teams will start arriving for the training. The teams will resume the season in their home markets following the tournament.
Those who have already been in the market training will arrive no later than seven days before their first match. Moreover, the players will be sequestered in a resort with a rigorous test protocol while in Florida.
