A decision on whether to play the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on June 21, or a neutral venue, will not be taken until Friday.
The derby had been on a list of fixtures that South Yorkshire Police’s Deputy Chief Constable Mark Roberts of the UK’s Football Police had requested to be played in a neutral venue due to fears of public health in the coronavirus pandemic.
However, Merseyside Police appeared to refute DCC Roberts by saying they were satisfied at Liverpool football matches.
The PA news agency understands that the relevant documents were not issued until last Friday, so it takes more time for the members of the safety advisory committee at Liverpool City Council to read them.
Meanwhile, it is understood that Everton is happy to host the fixture, where local Liverpool rivals could win the title if Manchester City’s closest challengers lose to Arsenal on June 17.
The Reds can secure the title with six more points regardless of what City does, meaning they could wrap up the title against Crystal Palace at Anfield on Wednesday, June 24.
The derby was one of only two games on the side of it in the initial rounds of Premier League fixtures released on Friday to have ‘venue TBC,’ with all other games in the restart being given the go-ahead to be played at the usual home venue.
The other match yet to be confirmed is the game against Liverpool on July 2nd by Manchester City.
