U.S. Men’s national team player Weston McKennie disputed suggestions that the squad needs an identity. The Schalke star claimed that performing for the new community is incredibly satisfying for everybody involved.
McKennie told ESPN, “Our team is so tight together, so bonded together and knowing each other so well, it’s something that I haven’t felt in a long time.”
He says he feels that the USMNT is a squad that has established its reputation over the timeframe after joining the group, and that the youthful core of the team has built a lot of teamwork in the time they were together.
He went on, “I think of the whole community anytime I think about the national team – because we know what we want to achieve, we know the kind of players we have, so everybody knows what they have to give, what we should do, and everyone knows our ability.”
He concluded, “I don’t agree when they say it’s a lack of identity.”
