With Manchester United and Sheffield United agreeing in principle on the matter, Dean Henderson is expected to stay on loan from Manchester United at Sheffield United for the final matches of the elongated season.
The deadline for clubs to extend the contract players whose deals expire on June 30th according to The Guardian.
As for Henderson’s deal, some specifics still need to be ironed out, but it is expected to be completed before June 23.
Manchester United’s blessing would come as a relief to Sheffield United because the former had the option of recalling Henderson at the end of the month.
If they had indeed recalled him, he wouldn’t have played for his loan club in their seven Premier League matches in July when the season is expected to end.
Under the terms of his loan, however, Henderson won’t play against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
Last season Henderson was on loan at Bramall Lane when he helped Sheffield United to get automatic promotion from the Championship and this time around, he was outstanding for them, earning senior England recognition. The 23-year-old was a member of the new foreign squads in October and November.
The two clubs are vying for promotion in the Champions League, with Manchester United finishing fourth, two points ahead of Sheffield United, who has a game coming up.
Even fifth place would suffice to qualify them, if next month’s court of arbitration for sport upholds Manchester City’s ban from the competition.
